Office Furniture: Commercial Grade vs Residential Grade

May 10, 2010

Ever wonder why most of the big trucks have diesel engines and passenger cars has gas powered engines?  Diesel engines are built for heavy everyday use and built to last several 100, 000 miles.  If you put a gas powered truck on the road you would have more problems, repairs and down time.

Same goes for office furniture but the differences are not so obvious.  Commercial grade office furniture should last a minimum of 5 years of heavy everyday use and abuse.  This is true for chairs, desks and files. Some of the best “A GRADE” office furniture will out last most businesses.  It is not uncommon to come across furniture in great condition that was built back in the 1970′s.  I’m talking about bright orange, green and  yellow fabric chairs that are in great shape but out of style.

Most of the furniture you buy in St*pl#s or similar superstores and some of the furniture on the internet fall into the residential office furniture catagory.  This furniture ususlly comes RTA (ready to assemble).  Not a good sign if you have to build it your self and expect it to last.  Talk to your local Office Furniture Dealer.  Don’t buy “gas powered” furniture for a “diesel powered” work enviornment.

If price is your only concern, try a Used Office Furniture Dealer you might just spend less for “A Grade” furniture than you will for residential grade.  No compromise….no worries.
